Sports Medicine

 

Our goal is to offer MSU students a comprehensive package of sports medicine and athletic enhancement services to address the myriad of athletic training and sports participation needs of the student athlete including injury prevention, diagnosis and treatment, sports nutrition, fitness evaluation, enhanced performance and personal training.

Orthopedics & Physical Therapy This clinic provides physical therapy, athletic training, sports medicine, and orthopedic specialist services on an appointment basis. Patients must have a physician referral for an appointment for physical therapy, or to see the orthopedic surgeon.

Sports Medicine Two MSU Sports Medicine Fellows will be available to see students with musculoskeletal injuries at Olin Health Center on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. The clinic hours are 1:30 to 4:30 PM. An appointment can be made by calling 353-4660. The MSU Sports Medicine Fellows serve as team physicians for several of the MSU Varsity Teams. The clinic will be offered in the Olin Health Center Department of Orthopedics and Physical Therapy.

Nutrition Counseling A registered dietitian is available to provide individual consultation and up to date information in the area of nutrition and athletic performance. The goal is to promote positive eating to enhance performance for an individual and/or as a member of a team. Information given will be based on sound scientific principle and will include (but not be limited to): supplement use, specific nutrient needs (carbohydrates, protein, and fat), sports drinks, and meal timing.

Lifestyle Inventory and Fitness Evaluation Prescription Program (LIFE: Rx) The LIFE: Rx program is a comprehensive health education and promotion program for MSU students, faculty, and staff that offers extensive lifestyle and fitness evaluation testing and individualized counseling and health prescription. Participants receive a detailed personal profile that includes parameters relative to their blood cholesterol and HDL levels, blood pressure, percent body fat, heart rate (resting, exercise, and recovery), flexibility, lung volume, muscular endurance, strength, aerobic capacity, relative fitness level, and lifestyle risk status.
