The Student Health Advisory Council

Who is the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC)??

SHAC is comprised of dedicated students that strive to see quality health care on MSU's campus. They meet on a regular basis to discuss student views of the health center and offer suggestions as to how it can be improved.

The members of SHAC serve in the following ways:

  • Represent the student body concerning policy changes and the future of health care on campus;
  • Ensure the student voice is heard and accounted for by Olin Health Center administration;
  • Assist in formulating and developing new programs to meet student needs.

Some of the things that SHAC has done in the past and are doing this year include:

  • Planning and Hosting the Olin Health Center Open House for students (November, 2009 - postponed until Spring '10)
  • Developing a blog/message board for students to voice comments/concerns/questions (coming Fall '09)
  • Dispersing important Spring Break information for travelers (Spring '10)
  • Playing an active role in Olin's potential relocation to the Clinical Center

What are the benefits of joining?

  • Network with other student organizations on projects to promote health care and wellness;
  • Have direct involvement and experience in institutional decision making processes;
  • Make a positive impact on the health care that is provided for nearly 47,000 students on campus;
  • And more!

How do I become a member of SHAC?

  • Any MSU student interested in Olin Health Center and on-campus health care and services may apply to be a member of SHAC. All majors are welcome, both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to get involved.
  • We only accept members after they have gone through an application process. Completing an application not only enters you into the pool to be accepted, but ensures that you have agreed to our terms of membership (which will be uploaded alongside the application in March).

The diversity of disciplines and involvement among SHAC members is the driving force that helps SHAC in formulating and developing programs and services that are sensitive to the needs of all areas of our diverse student population.

For information, you may also contact shac@msu.edu.

Thank you to each of you who filled out an application for SHAC membership for the 2009-2010 school year.

We will next be accepting applications in spring of 2010. Keep your eyes open for new applications coming in MARCH!
