Description of servicesThe staff of Olin Health Center's Gynecology Clinic respects and supports women in assuming an active role in their health care. To assist in this process, individual staff consultation visits, audiovisual programs, and educational pamphlets are available.What Services are AvailableGeneral Health MaintenanceGARDASIL Vaccine for HPVAnnual Gynecology Exam -- Includes a general physical exam including breast and pelvic exams, and a Pap test for cancer of the cervix. Contraceptive Counseling -- Professional advice about method(s) of contraception to meet individual medical needs and lifestyles. For some preliminary birth control information please visit our birth control website. Contraception Visits -- Gynecological examination and personalized instruction for contraception. Contraceptive options available at Olin Health Center include oral contraceptives (birth control pills), diaphragms, cervical cap, Depo Provera, foam, and condoms. Discount prices are offered for condoms and oral contraceptives. Pregnancy Testing -- Low-cost, accurate pregnancy testing. In addition, individual counseling and referral sources are offered in a supportive and confidential manner. Care Following Sexual Assault -- We provide compassionate care by personnel with expert training and on-site resources. All medical findings are completely confidential. Gynecology ProblemsEmergency Contraception (Morning After Pill) -- Available to prevent pregnancy for women who have had unprotected vaginal sex within the last 72 hours. Plan B is available without a prescription to clients 18 years and older. The customer will need to speak with a pharmacist to receive plan B. Students who are less than 18 years old will need a prescription to receive this medicine.General Gynecological Problems -- Diagnostic testing and treatment for problems such as irregular bleeding, heavy periods, menstrual cramps, PMS, abnormal hair growth, painful intercourse, and vaginal infections. Minor Surgical Procedures -- Treatment for abnormal Pap smears (including colposcopy), evaluation of abnormal genital lesions, Norplant removal, and IUD insertion. Screening and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases -- Including chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, herpes, HPV (genital warts), and HIV infections. All testing, treatment, and counseling are handled in a strictly confidential manner. Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) assessment information is available, as well as resources for information and support for STIs/STDs. Gynecology Education Resource CenterVisual displays, videocassette short programs, pamphlets, and other informational materials are available in the Gynecology Clinic waiting room.What Costs are InvolvedFees are charged for the following services: pharmacy, laboratory (including Pap smears), radiology, treatment of genital warts, minor surgical procedures, and some office visits. Students and their spouses are encouraged to secure health insurance coverage. See Olin's Eligibility, Fees and Insurance page for more details.Who Has Access to My RecordsComplete medical records are maintained on all Health Center patients. All information in student medical records is confidential, and access to these records is restricted to authorized Health Center personnel. Faculty, university adminstrators, and parents do not have access to student medical records without written consent of the student.
